The Vervet Forest

This compelling documentary tells the story of five orphaned monkeys rescued by the Vervet Monkey Foundation in South Africa, shedding light on the human activity that destroyed their habitat. The film follows the monkeys' arrival as infants through their growth into intelligent juveniles who are eventually adopted by foster mother monkeys and integrated into troops in the wild. Outside the foundation, the ever-evolving landscape of South Africa sparks conversations about the causes of monkey habitat destruction, the role of humans in a struggling ecosystem, and how understanding the connection between ourselves and our environment can inspire positive action. Director Kyle Salazar is an American who first volunteered at the Vervet Monkey Foundation in 2007. His goal with the film is to preserve a forest in South Africa as a release site for rehabilitated monkeys.
