Courage looks different on everyone. Whether big or small, each act of courage in the service of empowering women* makes an impact. By contributing an act of courage, you will put yourself in the mindset of being a creator of change, increasing the likelihood that you will act courageously again. By sharing these acts of courage, we intend to both honor those who have spoken and inspire all of us in bringing about a world where girls and women have equal opportunities to thrive. It's not just our beliefs that change the world, it's our actions. What is your story of courage?

*women includes any person who identifies as such

We are specifically looking for stories of courage that accomplish one or more of the following:

  • Disrupt discrimination against women
  • Increase opportunity for women
  • Reduce violence against women
  • Break gender stereotypes

Here are some examples of acts of courage:

Disrupting discrimination against women by…
Asking for a raise so that your salary matches your male counterparts
Introducing policies that support gender parity at work (ex: parental leave policies, discrimination policies, hiring practices, etc.)
Asking for the input of women when they are being ignored by men on the team

Increasing opportunity for women by…
Advocating for representation of women and marginalized groups in the leadership team
Applying for, or encouraging a woman to apply for, a leadership position
Joining a “parity pledge” or something similar
Starting your own business, or supporting female business owners

Reducing violence against women by…
Leaving, or helping a friend to leave, an abusive relationship
Speaking up when I witness racism, homophobia, ableism, or other forms of oppression which contribute to the disproportionate violence against marginalized women
Initiating conversations with men about rape culture (societal attitudes and individual behaviors that reinforce or excuse sexual violence)
Intervening when I witness sexual harassment or violence against women

Breaking gender stereotypes by…
entering, or encouraging a woman to enter, a male dominated field
expressing, or encouraging a boy or man to express, sadness, hurt, or fear
declining to participate in an activity that reinforced harmful gender roles or initiating an activity that went against them
